Onboarding: Design Phase

The Design Phase is led by the Onboarder, with the Onboarding Designer managing creative deliverables.

Once the Onboarder turns over the Design Brief to the Onboarding Designer and schedules the Design Kick Off call, the Design Phase is underway.

Design Kick Off Call

The Onboarder handles the project management of the design phase, including scheduling the Design Kick Off call with the Project Designer and customer(s). They introduce the parties on the call. 

The Designer leads the rest of the call, reviewing the requirements shared in the Design Brief and asking any further questions to understand the scope of the project and prepare for the Design process immediately following the call. 

Design 

The Onboarder books the Design Review Call and determines the Design timeline. Nyla recommends a week, although it's possible to execute faster, pending the Designer's availability and project requirements. They should pad in two business days, one for Nyla to review the mock up, and one for the designer to make adjustments if needed.

The Designer asychronously creates a mock up of the Key Pages (as defined in the Design Brief) in Figma; at least HP, PLP, PDP, About, Navigation, and Cart for both desktop and mobile.

The Designer should add the Onboarder as an admin on Figma.

Please note: the Designer should turn over the design to the Onboarder and Nyla two business days before the Design Review Call is scheduled with the customer. This time is required for Nyla to review the design for platform feasibility, and for the Designer to make adjustments if needed to ensure the design the customer sees has been fully vetted. 

Design Review Call

The stakeholders come together to review the mock up.

The Onboarder shares the timeline for the remainder of the Design Phase, and the next deliverables deadline, which is Customer Feedback. They email the link to the customer for their comments. 

Customer Feedback

The customer leaves their feedback for the Designer in the form of Figma comments. Feedback in other forms is not accepted-- all comments must be centralized to the mock up file in Figma.

Design Revisions

After the Customer Feedback window, the Onboarder reviews customer comments and addresses them, either passing them along to the Designer if they are adjustments to be made by tagging them in the comment, or replying to the customer if it's a matter of functionality and/or a request that's outside platform capabilities. 

Once the Designer receives their feedback, they make the necessary adjustments to the mock up, marking the comments marked done as they are addressed. 

Asynchronous Final Design Review + Final Customer Feedback 

The Onboarder confirms that Design Revisions have been made and assigns the customer to do a Final Design Review. This is done asynchronously as it does not require a meeting. 

The customer adds any final comments and/or feedback directly on the Figma mock up by their Final Customer Feedback deadline, as communicated by the Onboarder.

Final Design Revisions

The Onboarder communicated the dates of the Final Design Revisions to the Designer, which they apply directly to the Figma mock up, marking the comments marked done as they are addressed.

As a final step, the Designer names each section template with intuitive names that should be previously aligned with the customer during the design phase, and adds the Nyla Template ID for the templates reused from Nyla Library. The designers should avoid the internal names used in the Nyla Library and random names (e.g. Hero 005).

The Designer lets the Onboarder know once the Design is complete.

Design Approval

The Onboarder solicits written Design Approval from the customer on the final Design mock up. 

Once the design is approved, the Designer's scope is complete, and the Onboarder schedules the Requirements Sign Off call with the customer.
