What should I do if my images are pixelated?

Nyla uses best in class image transformation and compression technology in order to make sure that images are optimized for each browser and viewport that your shoppers are browsing on. This allows for better web performance for your customers and allows them to see your images faster.
For the majority of cases on ecommerce websites, having your images as optimized in this way will not result in a visual difference to users, however for certain images, especially those that contain text, transparency or complex details, you might see some minor degradation on the image as a result of the optimization being applied.
How should I make sure my images aren’t pixelated?
In terms of resolution, try to upload an image roughly twice as wide as the largest resolution from your end users (usually called retina or 2x images):
- Generally speaking, a width of 2500 - 3000px will work in most scenarios, but you don't need to resize them if your image is larger than that (it'll get resized automatically based on the screen of the end user)
In terms of format:
- For the majority of images that you upload, you should use JPG by default.
- For images that contain text, transparency and fine details, use PNG.
Bear in mind that by uploading PNGs you will be harming performance metrics such as Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) but you will have crisper images.
We recommend starting with JPG as the default, and if the result isn't looking as crisp as needed, only then try PNGs as an alternative.
