SEO metadata can be configured for your Nyla site at two levels
- for your site as a whole (under Editor → Settings → Site Settings → Site Data)
- for each of your pages
Sitewide Metadata
Site-level metadata is configured under Editor → Settings → Site Settings → Site Data.
For more information, see Structured Data → Organization Snippet
Page Level Controls
To access SEO controls for each page, go to Editor → Pages → locate page → Page Settings → SEO. The following fields are available for all pages other than Utility pages:
SEO Title
This is what appears in the browser tab — as well as what Google will typically show for the title of the page in search results. Nowadays Google's guidance is to keep these short.
TIP
Product metadata is retrieved initially from Shopify on product or collection page creation. When creating a PDP, simply leave the SEO Title as Title and it will populate dynamically.
SEO Description
Important to set uniquely per page. If when indexing your page, Google thinks that the meta description is well written and accurately reflects the content of the page, it will commonly use that exact text or an excerpt of it as the description shown in Google search results.
TIP
Metadata is retrieved initially from Shopify on product or collection page creation. When creating a PDP, simply leave the SEO Description as Description and it will populate dynamically.
Notes:
- Product metadata is retrieved initially from Shopify on product or collection page creation.
Hide from Search Results
Setting this toggle active does several things:
- Tells crawlers to ignore this page by setting a meta tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
- Excludes the page from being included in Source collection
- Excludes the page from being included in search results powered by Algolia Search
Set Manual Canonical URL
Toggle this setting on in order to set a “canonical link”. More on canonical URLs here.
Social Image
Allows you to upload an image that will be used when end users share the page e.g. on social media.
