Replaced content on each instance a template is used
Overrides allow you you have unique content in a Section templates while maintaining the design.
Overrides make it easier to create and maintain recurring layouts by letting you enable unique content.
Adding overrides
Overrides can be added by clicking on the purple circle beside a field. This will allow you to add an override, where you can name it, and choose a folder.
To add an override to your section template:
- Enter the edit section template view
- Select the content item you want to add an override for
- Click the purple dot to the left of the field you want to add an override to
- Give your override a name based on its use
Types of overrides
There are a variety of override types in Nyla:
- Switch
- Image
- Text
- Text area
- Link
- Source
- Dropdown
- SVG
Overrides can be added independently for Responsive fields. Future support for style overrides is under development.
Modify overrides
You can edit or remove overrides by clicking on the purple icon next to a field. A modal will open, letting you change the name, folder, etc.
Using overrides
You can change the override on each instance of a section template in the Quick edit view.
In quick edit, overrides that have not yet been edit will show as placeholder text, and will not have a purple icon next to them.
Reset overrides
You can reset an override to the original section template content by clicking on the override in quick edit.

Overrides can individually be added to states, letting you change the overrides
Reorder overrides
It is possible to reorder overrides and group them into folders to make the template easier to use.
In order to reorder overrides, you should click on Edit template to enter into template editing mode.Once you are in edit mode, clicking into “Edit overrides” will open the UI for reordering overrides and putting them into folders.
Editing overrides allows you to do the following:
- Group overrides into folders so that overrides can be grouped together in a way that makes it easier for the user to edit their section template.
- Order overrides and folders so that they appear in the order that makes most sense.
- Rename overrides
- Delete overrides.
Once you have made the changes to the overrides you want, save and queue your template for those changes to apply.
Clicking into edit overrides within edit mode of a section template will open up the reordering UI.
The edit overrides screen allows you to manage your overrides.
The overrides in this section template are grouped into folders for left and right column.
Clicking into an override opens up a popup which allows you to rename, delete or add overrides to a folder
