Intro to Content Items

Atomic building blocks for your Nyla site.

Content Items are the building blocks that you use in order to build your site in Nyla. There are different types of Content Items:
  • Core Content Items: Add content to your site.
  • Layout Content Items: Create a layout or structure on your site.
  • Source Content Items: Connect data sources to your Sections and content.
  • Product Content Items: Create shoppable experiences.
  • Cart Content Items: Scoped to the shopping cart.
  • App Content Items: Related to Apps.
  • Form Content Items: For building forms.
  • Other: Additional Content Items for specific use cases not covered in any of the previous types.
Content items can have:
  • Fieldsets: Grouped categories of fields that allow you to edit your site
  • Fields: The individual fields that you edit in order to change the settings of a Content Item within the Section that you are editing. Some fields are responsive, meaning you can set mobile and desktop versions to have different content or settings for each breakpoint.
  • Elements: Some Content Items have Elements which are nested groups of fields and fieldsets that are scoped to a specific part of a Content Item, for example editing Pagination options on Grid, or the Play Icon on Video.
  • States: Some Content Items and Design Tokens have States, which can change certain design and content fields based on the state of the content item at the time. An example might be a hover state on a Button or an out of stock state for Product Options.
  • Visibility: Just like Sections, content items have visibility settings to show or hide them on different breakpoints.
